Some time ago, I had the opportunity to meet then-Presidential Candidate Barack Obama outside his airplane, as well as have a little look at the inside of it.
Here, you can see me sitting in his actual seat. Very comfy. I was freezing, shivering as I posed. It was 50 degrees out this morning and I wasn't prepared.
In the side pocket of the chair, there was the book he was reading, which is currently "The Thirteen American Arguments: Enduring Debates That Define and Inspire Our Country" by Howard Fineman. I plan on getting it for Christmas.
Then it was arranged so that I could have the opportunity to meet him! I stood there in a line of others who were getting the chance, and the motorcade pulled up. Out he came and shook the hands and posed for photos with the 8 or so others around me.
Dialogue:
Obama: Good morning
Me: (nod) Senator.
Obama: What's your name?
Me: Phil
Obama: PHIL! (excitedly)
(pose....photo)
Obama: Thank you very much.
Phil: Thank YOU.
That was that. We walked off and I hopped in a suburban that drove us off of the airfield. I also came away with some buttons and a t-shirt.
It was a really wild and fun experience that I'll never forget. One of my goals in life was to meet a President, and now I can say that I met one of the most historical figures of our time.
Feel free to ask questions, although I may be limited in what I can say of course.
