The north end of Times Square next to the beautiful new TKTS booth/bleachers, where CNN was set up.

Watching the early returns at Rudy's bar on 9th Ave.

This CNN closeup earned a chorus of boos.

Bangladeshi reporter.

Awaiting Obama's acceptance speech.

YAY

THROW YA CRUTCHES UP! THROW YA CRUTCHES UP!

FINALLY! He's going to speak!

And a second later...

WTF?!!

Other screen on?

Nope!

So while CNN was busy spending MILLIONS on their totally idiotic fake hologram effect for last night's broadcast, they apparently forgot to maintain their satellite link in Times Square. Thankfully everyone was in too good a mood to get rowdy.

Definitely a very memorable experience. Although I voted for Obama, and I am happy that he won, I can't say I shared the enthusiasm that many in attendance showed...I felt almost like Debbie Downer compared to the scores of overly excited people there. While his election was historic and his speeches offer hope for a country in peril, at the end of the Election Day the country was still in bad shape, and no amount of great speeches is going to fix that. I am hopeful that he can deliver, but I'm not going to get excited until he does.
