Weather Service: Evacuate Galveston or Face 'Certain Death'

I've never heard the National Weather Service issue such an ominous warning, this in regards to Hurricane Ike, which is forecast to push up to 25 feet(!) of storm surge through Galveston Bay tonight and tomorrow.

ALL NEIGHBORHOODS...AND POSSIBLY ENTIRE COASTAL COMMUNITIES...
WILL BE INUNDATED DURING THE PERIOD OF PEAK STORM TIDE. PERSONS
NOT HEEDING EVACUATION ORDERS IN SINGLE FAMILY ONE OR TWO STORY
    HOMES MAY FACE CERTAIN DEATH.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

Heard that on the radio this morning. I'd believe it, too. Look at the size of this thing!
