    IAD 9/5/2008

    Hi All,

With all the political conventions coming to an end we've got some good stuff at IAD.
Two Kalitta Air 747s (-100 and -200), ATI DC-8 and Volga Dnepr AN-124 right in the mix.
Few shots from very productive 45 minutes at IAD.

    Take care,
    Rafal

    Great stuff as always, Rafal.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.

Good shooting - while I lived in DC I was never lucky enough to get a sunny day at IAD.

    Sure do miss DCA though...

Great shots Rafal, You had some great luck in those 45 minutes! I am thinking of going on a day trip to IAD this Friday. Where were these shots taken from? Thanks.

    Gus,

I wouldn't recommend trip to IAD right now. They work on new runway and because of it some of the taxiways are closed causing chaos in operations.
For the past couple of weeks they are on North operations using runways 1R/1C but at 2pm they switch to South operations for runways 19L/19C. With this configuration you can only shoot from official spots in the morning (parking garage 2 level 5).
If its cloudy then you can stay at D2L5 all day long getting most of the international arrivals throughout the day.
For spotting info you can visit my site http://www.flyiad.net

    Take care,
    Rafal

That particular Transall is not based at IAD per se. What I meant to say is that German AF has a base at IAD. At any given time there are Luftwaffe Transalls and A310 parked on the ramps.
Next time when you are at IAD check the bulding to the west of Marriott hotel. You will see that it belongs to Germany. Dead give away is a military check point painted in the German national flag :)

    Gus,

IAD is back to normal (almost). Construction by the runway 1C is done and now everything is back to regular arrival/departure path.
As a side note - Runway 12/30 has been closed so all arrivals and departures are from 1C/1R and 19C/19L. That way you wont miss anything :)
You can reschedule your trip to IAD now :)
