    What Would You Include in a Survival Kit?

    With hurricane season upon us, and the ever looming threat of terrorism, earthquakes, blackouts, the collapse of Western civilization, zombie attacks and who knows what else, I've been trying to put together a list of things to gather for a survival closet in my apartment.

    * bottled water
    * canned food
    * duct tape
    * candles
    * matches
    * battery operated radio
    * rope
    * small ax
    * multi tool
    * hammer

    Does anyone have anything like this? What other items would you recommend?
    Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
    All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
    I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

    The ax and multi-tool were my additions! In my head, a serious disaster would probably require I rebuild shelter in some capacity, so things like an ax, fold-up shovel, rope and the like are things I'd want along with me.

    Good knife (serrated KABAR or something)
    Flashlights (2)
    Extra batteries
    Flares
    Notebook and pens (to help maintain my sanity and log stuff)
    Gloves

    You don't need the pillow. You can just get an extra case of beer and use the cardboard as a pillow. :borat:

    paracord and duct tape
    led flashlight and spare batts (http://www.surefire.com/maxexp/main/...4460/sesent/00)
    snap lights
    hand-crank radio (http://www.ambientweather.com/etgrfrseaman.html)
    KaBar and small saw

    it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

    Matches are the #1 item you'd want in a survival kit if you were expecting to spend a prolonged amount of time in a "survival" situation (i.e. out in the middle of nowhere)..

    Other than that, there are some big ticket items that I'd probably want to include:

    - water purification tables (iodine tablets or something similar)
    - Pocketknife
    - Bandaids or the like
    - Gloves
    - Waterproof container

    Kenny, a pillow??? You lightweight.

    -Water, matches, handcrank radio, swiss army knife, protein bars, GPSmarker
    And I, I took the path less traveled by
    and that has made all the difference......yet...
    I have a feeling a handle of people are going to be very interested in what I post in the near future.

    Exactly, just make sure it can receive the NOAA weather band. So you know what is coming.

    Dont forget extra batteries, and change them in your kit once a year. If you pack a kit now and dont need it for 3 years, those batteries are not going to help very much.
    I would also pack the following...in a double sealed plastic bag:
    Deed to the house & Insurance documents.

    Keys (you never know).
    1 small case (24 pack) Granola Bars for quick snacks without any prep work.

    And I have two containers packed with about half of the items on y'all's lists. The last minute stuff (food, water) will get purchased when a storm starts approaching.

    Keep in mind this kit is not just for expected weather, but for terror attacks and the general unforeseeable. You might not have a chance to run to the store for food or water. Even if you do, a mad dash for it will be quite a battle at the market.

    My plan still works.

    It's just gonna rain. My kit for this weekend will include some cash for beer, and tylenol, gatorade and prophylactics for afterward.
