Manchester Airport (MAN) is right up there with Zurich (ZRH) as one of the top airports to spot at. Not only are the spots incredible but some of the charter traffic is quite nice as well.
My mother had to head up to Newcastle for a 3 day conference so my father and I decided to stop in Manchester for 2 days and then head back to London. We took a Virgin train on the two hour trip each way and arrived into a cloudy Manchester on the afternoon of the 15th. After taking a train out to the airport we checked in at the Premiere Inn (highly recommended throughout England and cheap) located very close to the aviation viewing park. After renting the car the weather took a turn for the best with the sun appearing and the light becoming gorgeous. A brief stay at the viewing park resulted in some nice photography opportunities along with the company of Concorde. The next morning, with clouds, we headed across the airport and under the runway to a great spot for rotations and spent the morning there until they switched runways for departure at noon. When I arrived at the spot for rotations after passing through some forest my first thought was "#$*%& I'm in the freaking airport grounds, oh crap!" The spot is so close to the runway and the fence is a ways down from the spot. Finally I realized there was actually a fence haha.
Something that I want to mention was that during my two week stay in England I ended up seeing the whole PIA 777 fleet!
All in all it was a fantastic spotting opportunity and I was very happy with the pics.
Enjoy!
Yes I shot a Delta 767...
Someone flipping me off!
