I've been trying to search for them without luck, but I think I saw them on this site in a thread a while back -- this was after I moved to Arizona, so it would be in the past year and a half. I have a fairly good recollection of there being a Qantas photo and perhaps a few others. I remember not recognizing the name of the photographer(s) -- I think it was someone new(ish) to the site.

Does anyone remember seeing these photos? I'd really like to figure out where those photos were taken, as it would be fantastic to have an afternoon 4R spotting location.

There are places where you can shoot 4R/4L pics in the afternoon, however I would not recommend those locations as they are not in the best of neighborhoods.

It's hard to take chances but sometimes it's better if you do

Would anyone know exactly where the spot is? For such an occasion, I would definitely take my chances there.

Anyway, I'd like to find a place to take such shots. Eric, it sounds like you may know. Any advice on a place to shoot from -- without putting yourself in danger -- if the A380 comes in on 4R on Friday?

I believe there is a park/open field on Bayfield Ave. off of beach 65th st. Have not been there in some time. I don't know if this is the location where those were taken. Like I said not the best of areas, but with a group may not be that bad.

    Re: August 1st A380 planning

I personally will probably go for where the biggest crowd is. I was thinking about bringing some shears to trim some of the brush on the top of the mounds to allow more people to fit.

Rockaway Blvd was mentioned in another thread, and it would definitely be a nice angle, but be careful, as it's a busy roadway and cops seem to dislike that greatly. I don't think the general populace is familiar with this first revenue flight, so they might not be as forgiving as the last A380 visit.

The other park near the Mounds offers good angles, but with the summer sun, I'd assume the plane would be very toplit from there, no?

Well in any case, I'm happy to get the chance to finally meet some (most) of you. I was at the picnic in September but I just kinda layed low. I'll be the tall, goofy white kid.

If we know of an alternate rwy 4 spot, let's try to figure it out quickly, map it and figure out directions to determine who needs a ride and all of that. Otherwise, if it comes in on 4, I'll settle for a Bayswater backlit shot if I have to. I just don't want to miss it, and the group.

Otherwise, will there be anyone who will need a ride to the event?

Anyone who wants my cell number to help coordinate day-of, PM me and I'll give it you to. To learn of runways, where people seem to be meeting up, etc.

Well good luck boys on catching the A380. I may see it 6 miles above my head in Poland. :D

Not at 5:45, this time of year 5:45 is going to offer perfect light and with the WX predicted on Friday should be ideal conditions.

Me too...let me know if you're trying to get there without a car, as I've been to most of the spotting locations by mass-transit and I'm happy to help.

Winds are predicted to be NW between 10 and 15 knots on Friday. Anyone care to make a prediction.
