Directions to where Eric is talking about. Don't look too bad. I may take a dry run just in case.Originally Posted by Phil D.

NW winds in the summer usually means haze.
5:45pm light is still too high I think for that park. There are still a few hours of daylight left that time, and when you're underneath a plane like that, any angle other than close to sunset will be too high, I think.

If you got scanners, may be a good idea to tune into approach.Originally Posted by T-Bird76

Sunsets at 8:10 that day, the sun will not be to high.
Agreed about the 31s, and good advice about remaining "on alert" to move to the 31L spot. I remember a group of us did that for Pink Song once (before it was Pink Delta).Originally Posted by T-Bird76
Perhaps a local could post directions to the 31L spot for the benefit of others who aren't familiar with the area. Also, I think it would be helpful if someone could post the relevant New York Approach and JFK Tower frequencies that should be monitored to plan for this contingency. (I'd post all this info if I actually remembered it -- I can't believe its been a year and a half since I moved out West!)
Thanks.
P.S. - Tommy, judging by your comment, clearly you think the 4R afternoon spot is unsafe. I've never been there -- what kind of area are we talking about?
Arrival time is 4:45pm, not 5:45pm. Assuming the plane came in on 22L, I think the sun will be too high for good shots from that park. You're darn near directly underneath planes at that park, so you get lots of dark underwing shadow.Originally Posted by Phil D.

If you are by yourself yes it is not a safe area at all but in a large group like what we'll have on Friday you'll be fine. Its a rather low income area Josh that's a known high crime sector.P.S. - Tommy, judging by your comment, clearly you think the 4R afternoon spot is unsafe. 31s are looking pretty likely...I didn't know there *was* a 31L spot...where is it?
The 4R spot is not a great neighborhood but it certainly isn't any worse than the area around Bayswater...or The Mound(s)...
Approach 132.4, 127.4, 125.7
Tower 119.1
Josh, I think Tommy is implying that the area is overrun with savagery. A place where "Say, do you have the time?" = "Gimme your watch mother******!"
