‘Jaws’ star Roy Scheider dies at 75

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Roy Scheider, the actor best known for his role as a police chief in the blockbuster movie “Jaws,” has died. He was 75.


Scheider died Sunday at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital in Little Rock, hospital spokesman David Robinson said. The hospital did not release his cause of death.

However, hospital spokeswoman Leslie Taylor said Scheider had been treated for multiple myeloma at the hospital’s Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy for the past two years.

Do you remember Seaquest DSV. Early 90's show on NBC. I think he was pretty good in that. I was hooked on that show.

One of my favorite actors. Just saw him in "2010" the sequel to "2001" and of course next to "Jaws" a second favorite character was Officer Frank Murphy, LAPD Astro Division, in one of the best helicopter movies made "Blue Thunder".

I have not seen 2010 in years but his character in that was my favorite roll he played, and I was also a Seaquest DSV fan as well. RIP Roy !

It was on TCM a few weeks ago. Great film and as usual Roy was excellent.

You should rent The 7 Ups, French Connection 1 and All That Jazz. All great Scheider flicks. All NYC locales, btw.
