Hi guys,

Just had Radisson help line on the phone, because their policy says that I can't book a room in one of their hotels unless I am at least 21 years old (fair enough...) but my father booked it.....now they say I can't even stay there unless I'm over that age (which is NOT mentioned in their policy!).

I've been to NY and BOS last year and stayed in 3 different hotels....never ever had a problem. Now, if all hotels in California have that policy I can as well sleep under the bridge... :shock:

I know that most hotels have a policy that you must have a credit card to check in, have not heard about an age requirement :?:

Could it be the case that it is California state law to not give hotel rooms to people under 21?

Flo, can you try another hotel in the meantime? I'm digging around right now because something smells real fishy about the story from their end.

They can refuse to accomodate you based on age under the law but it's not illegal for them to rent a room to you. Basically, it's the only legal (though very unethical) way they can discriminate against you. The system here is screwy and statutes differ from state to state. It's still ballsy because who wants their establishment billed as a discriminator? I suggest trying another local inn.

I'm under the age of 21 and have made reservations/stayed in hotels before. The only requirement Marriott had when I called was that you have a credit card to charge the room to. If you're under 18, you just need a parent's credit card and an authorization form signed by that parent.

Not sure what the requirements are for other hotels, but I agree the policy is a bit strange. Just think, a 24 year old regional airline captain can fly a CRJ across the country, yet can't legally rent a car to drive to the hotel.

I was just being a bit pissed-off....absolutely didn't want to insult any of you guys. Love the country, wouldn't come back otherwise

Both the Radisson and the Marriott Courtyard said they do not let me check-in unless I am at least 21 yrs.
I didn't look at the others yet because most of the hotels have their t's and c's burried in the darkest corner of their websites, and I just didn't want to search anymore.

Will check out a local travel agency tomorrow and ask if they know anything about that in particular.
