    Amsterdam/MD-11 "mileage run"

    Hey All-

So I've been keeping an eye on fares on KLM's flights from JFK-AMS, some of which are now operated by the MD-11. I've never been on one and always wanted to being a huge MDC fan. So I think I finally found the chance. I have three days that I can take off for a 4 day trip over to Amsterdam. Leaving 2/16 and returning on 2/20, fares around around $540 after taxes, which sounds pretty good to me. Unfortunately, it's only operated MD-11 one way, but I don't think I'll have the chance to ride on one again once it's pulled for the summer schedule. What do y'all think?

Not only the city of Amsterdam is great to visit, AMS itself is a mecca for spotting. Spotting is very encouraged. Check out the AMS official web site -- http://www.schiphol.nl/_entertainment/v ... 1008830596

A trip on MD-11, a few days spent at AMS, sightseeing in Amsterdam, a perfect vacation.

As you may have heard the official spotter site alongside the Kaagbaan has been closed last friday. To get next to the runway you will need a car, or a generous dutchman offering you a lift. ;)

If you decide to come over, drop me a line and I'll drive you around on saturday or sunday. I won't be able to join you weekdays due to work obligations. I do not live nearby enough to drop by after work.

    Re: Amsterdam/MD-11 "mileage run"

Thanks for all of the advice guys. Unfortunately, I had to nix the Amsterdam idea due to costs and timing issues. So instead I'll be running down to FLL to relax for a few days and meet up with Mark for some spotting. Hopefully I will be able to get to AMS on the way to another European city this summer for work.

Any time Eddie - it will more than likely be a lunchtime either Monday and/or Tuesday - with leaving for overseas soon - my weekends are pretty much taken. There has been some good stuff at FLL recently - Air Canada 70 year and 65 year scheme, Southwest - I've got Lone Star One, Arizona One and Maryland One, Delta brought in new scheme and winglets on 757's Sunday, Canjet TUI hybrid was also in Sunday - it's a good time for FLL - btw - any of the US Air guys (Ron, etc) - and of the A319 special schemes scheduled for FLL at all in the coming days?

Sure Eddie, would definitely like to meet up with you for some spotting at FLL, MIA, or both. I'm coming in late Saturday night (2/16), so I might spend Sunday morning on the beach, but perhaps in the afternoon I might hit either MIA or FLL, and definitely going to try to meet up with Mark on Monday during lunch at FLL. PM me for my cell phone number.

Mark - definitely let me know what time you'll head out to the spotting area so I'll make sure I'm not late!
