EWR had a HUGE 50th celebration show on Oct 1st 1978.
I was something I will NEVER forget!
Held at the North Terminal area and open to the public, one could walk in and around: World Airways DC-10-30, Allegheny Nord 262 (Mohawk 298), and National 727-100. Was a few military examples too but don't ask me what- could care less about that. Near the end of the show the National taxied to 22R, and seemed to "applied the brakes" and "applied lots of throttle" but did not move for several seconds, with smoke and thrust building and screaming. Only then did they "release the brakes" and the 727 slingshot to the sky like a fighter! It sure seemed and sounded like full throttle to me. Crouds of people were cheering and applauding- and to be standing airside next to that- Heaven!
