    Air Force 1 Questions

Without violating operational security two questions concerning Air Force 1.

When the President visits NYC do they always park at SWF after dropping him off or does
it depend how long he is visiting. Obviously a day trip would have them staying at JFK.

So God forbid a national crisis like 9/11 struck again and AF1 was up at Stewart and the
President was in Manhattan, what would they do? Fly him to SWF via Marine 1 or out to
    JFK and await AF1?

Thanks all and THANKS for the amazing pictures and posts contributed all week. The shot of
the KC-135 and the F-15s over JFK in support of POTUS was an unbelievable heads-up catch.
    Great shot Mirrodie.
Its amazing how many assets (military, Govt, LE) are there in support of ONE MAN!!

It would be wise not to talk about procedures of the presidential aircraft in case of national disaster or emerengcy.

These types of questions could not be seen in a good way period. If there was someone on here with an answer, I would hope that they not post it.
The three most common expressions in aviation are, "Why is it doing that?", "Where are we?" and "Oh Crap".

Not knowing the real answer, I would hazard a guess that the VC-25 would reposition from SWF to JFK or EWR and POTUS would be helicoptered there.

Of course this would also involve the decoy aircraft to relocate to SWF, and then back down to JFK so that no-one knows which aircraft he is on.

Well Im about to spill it.
This kind of stuff is planned in advanced weeks before the president goes anywhere. There are always several motorcades, of which only one will be carrying the president.
If something like what you imply were to happen, the top priority of the US Security Service would be to get the president as far away from the danger as possible which would mean to the presidential aircraft in use. You might ask why not just wait and trick potential terrorists, well that itself is too risky, up in the air where it is safe is the only logical place to be.

Same with Marine 1 as they always have one or two extra flying in the formation/helicade.

Which is exactly what happened on 9/11. A lot of critics gave Bush crap for "running away" that day. Look I have no
use for him but these people had no clue that he wasnt running away but following USSS protocols.
    Thanks for the replies.
I hope Derf doesnt turn us in.

Well, once he finished reading about his pet goat...I still don't understand why the USSS didn't get him out of the school and to the airplane immediately that day.

Well it was the first book he had read in years so they felt sorry for him.
BTW was he taken out before or after the second plane hit? Remember that after the first plane hit it was suggested
that maybe this was just a terrible accident.

JRB to SWF is 48.4 nautical miles North.
SWF to JFK is 53.9 nautical miles SSE.
JRB to JFK is 11.1 nautical miles West.

Whew, I can open the shades and answer the phone again.
Hey here is another scenario to get me in trouble: what if the President is at the Waldorf, AF 1 is at SWF
AND Marine 1 is at JFK or EWR or maybe even NY22 (Floyd B) then what?
BTW back in the 90s when Air Station Brooklyn was still in use the Presidential helicopters bunked there a few
times. Saw it with me own eyes.
