    Re: Amusing ACARS entry

Well ACARS stands for Aircraft Communication Addressing and Reporting System, it is basically a digital datalink system to transfer communications between the aircraft and ground. So, say you need to call up base to tell them something, instead of them having a separate frequency, you can just send it via ACARS. Does that make sense? I'm a bit sleepy..

It is actually a very useful and versatile system

So if we look at the message from his ACARS (uggh, im a bit sleepy, just noticed I wrote TCAS last night... corrected):
    Message content:-
    DISP,MSG ACK,DOG IS TOASTY,,,,,,
Most likely he is saying: Dispatch, message acknowledged, dog is toasty.
    nwa FOREVER!

Yeaa, this makes more sense now, where can you dowload this feature?

Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

So the real question is: What does 'dog is toasty' mean.

By the look of this picture: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1175610/L/

Dog looks quite a bit chilly

If I'm not mistaken the A319 has heat in the aft bin, so the msg is probably confirming that the heat is on in the bin and there was a dog loaded in the bin.

You are correct about the 319.

it's basically like a company frequency, but discrete and not range limited.
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

    Re: Amusing ACARS entry

This message could mean that they were worried about the dog. I know a lot of carriers restrict flying dogs in the summer due to the horrible things that have happened in the past. Maybe they had a long ground delay getting out of Chicago and they wanted to make sure the area where the dog was kept was opened IMMEDIATELY upon arrival.
