    *SIX* F-18's at LGA 7-15-07

I'd normally put this in the LGA thread, but I thought that it deserved its own thread....

Two F-18's just arrived at LGA. The first one did a flyby of 22 followed by a circle to land 31. The second one did a stright in landing of 22. The whole process caused 3 go arounds and one Eagle RJ that did the LDA-A to 22 and broke off early to circle to 31! Bet the pilots had fun!

The F-18's are parked at the Five Towers. Anyone know why they are here? Maybe the Met game at 110 today?

Edit: Navy King Air Just landed and parked next to the F-18's

I knew I heard something odd flying overhead.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

I saw two fly over where I work... and its INCREDIBLY RARE to see fighters fly over... they must've been about 10,000 feet up, heading towards NYC, but they were in a very loose formation, noticed two contrails, so that ruled out the F-16. I could barely tell the tail, which looked angular (Hornet) and they definitely weren't Raptors... and that was about 10:10 this morning. Then about five minutes later I heard (I think) two more go over... couldn't see them. Then at about 10:45, I randomly looked back to the south and saw three flying somewhat in a southerly direction and trying to get in some sort of formation... maybe 6,000 feet up?

Last time fighters flew over my town (that I know of) was the last time Bush flew into PHL... sometime last year.

They are not in a shootable location. More than likely they will dpart during my shift up here and if they do tomorrow I will be ready for them. Got to love the tower. There are more hornets on the fivetowers ramp than other types right now.

I saw the F-18s fly overhead at St. George, Staten Island between 1245 and 1305 passing over the Statue of Liberty heading north up the Hudson. I also noticed an old bi-plane heading southbound at one point. I couldn't figure the purpose but they were evidently here for Shea's Military Appreciation Day. Does anyone know their point of origin? I'm sure LGA was forced to delay their operations during this show. It was an impressive performance.

I'll post pictures from the landings later today when I get home.

They were supposed to take off around 11 but there is no activity as of yet

Just saw two depart LGA. Heard them as they were climbing out. I was away all weekend, see what I miss :(

Anyone know any info on if any others are departing?

Two more should be going any time now. 4 of six are gone. I missed number one and saw the other three go. One from ground level and I made it to the tower and got outside on the tower for the others.
