I suggest 2 things:
1) Position yourself better. Use the spotting maps here: http://nycaviation.com/jfkspotting -and- http://nycaviation.com/lgaspotting
2) Try and frame tighter. You have to get used to it one way or another. If you keep shooting loosely, you'll never get there. It's better to chop off some tails and refine your framing that way. Just practice at least getting the nose in the shot. But as I mentioned in point 1, it's much easier if you're positioned better (i.e., set up for a side-on shot, rather than over-head!)
Good luck, and congrats. :)
You have to go to the airport and get shots, not from your back deck. I can do that too since they come right over the house in the same hood.
If you can't get a ride this weekend IM me, maybe I'll give you a ride to LGA.

Same here...They fly directly over my house at 2500-3000 feet. Not so good for taking pictures.
I was able to do pretty well from the World's Fair Marina on Sunday...it's accessible by subway, if you're into that sort of thing...
thanks guys and gals yea im plan to travel all over the plane spotting locations over the summer at LGA and JFk. And I will practice more
