So I'm surprised no one posted anything but as of yesterday with NW's exit from Chap 11 no major U.S Airline is in Chap 11. This is the first time since 2001 this is the case. I think it’s interesting because over the past few years we've seen a total transformation of the airline industry. Just to note some of the changes since 2001.
-No more tri jets, i.e. 727, DC-10, L1011 in major airline service
-No more classic 737s i.e. the 200 series.
-Rise and fall of the RJ.
-No more hot meals and buy on board becoming the standard in service.
-Rise of the so called LCC.
-De hubbing in PIT and STL.
-Fleet down sizing the equivalent of an entire major airline's fleet.
-Over 100,000 people laid off in the industry.
-Merger of HP and US.
-Jets designed and built in Brazil becoming the new standard in the short haul market.
Lots have changed it seems like we are entering a new phase in the airline industry with new trends, aircraft, airlines, and services.
