    No one noticed

So I'm surprised no one posted anything but as of yesterday with NW's exit from Chap 11 no major U.S Airline is in Chap 11. This is the first time since 2001 this is the case. I think it’s interesting because over the past few years we've seen a total transformation of the airline industry. Just to note some of the changes since 2001.

-No more tri jets, i.e. 727, DC-10, L1011 in major airline service
-No more classic 737s i.e. the 200 series.
-Rise and fall of the RJ.
-No more hot meals and buy on board becoming the standard in service.
-Rise of the so called LCC.
-De hubbing in PIT and STL.
-Fleet down sizing the equivalent of an entire major airline's fleet.
-Over 100,000 people laid off in the industry.
    -Merger of HP and US.
-Jets designed and built in Brazil becoming the new standard in the short haul market.

Lots have changed it seems like we are entering a new phase in the airline industry with new trends, aircraft, airlines, and services.

All good points. Sounds like it's time for an editorial.

Yes, I saw the other thread. Just rubbing it in :)

Is Aloha considered a major airline? They are still flying the 737-200

Ya we saw a huge dehubbing of STL but it is still a hub for STL! Albeit a small one..

It is strange to see the huge difference between now and back in 2001.
I remembering watching the MD-11 in Delta Colors taking off from MCO and other places..

727's making their rounds, tho we still see the 727 with Champion Air at STL.

It sure would be nice to see something to make us want to fly again, thank god my love of flying keeps me going...but how far can we take it?

Yeah, I was going to post something but forgot about it.

Great news for NW. Great news for the industry. It may finally be getting back up on its feet.

I think Mario means at the time NW had DC-10s and 727s in the mix of DC-9s, 757s, 747s, and A319/320s. Speaking of things that haven't changed....NW still has a ton of DC-9s, lol I want to book a day trip from JFK on one of them just to fly an old 32 series before they are gone.

If you take one out to DTW, as soon as you get out of the terminal, head up to the check-in level and walk outside... it will be a very plesent suprise! :D This will be your view: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0794705/L/ The back side of the terminal is ALWAYS filled with DC-9's

Yeah, Tom caught on. My last memory at DTW was in summer of 2001, where I'd walk from one end of the NW terminal to the other, along the gates. And through the glass you would be nose to nose with, in no particular order, a 747, a dc-9, a 727, a 757, and other 747, a DC-10 another pair of 727s, and another pair of DC-9s. I remember skipping the train the runs above and walking instead :)

I might have some video or photos, particularly of the 727s that would powerback out of the gates.

Looking back, its nice to see NW kept such a diverse fleet.

The Flight Engineer disappeared before the changes in the timeframe Tommy mentioned.
