Thai BKK-JFK To Go Daily; Remain A340-500

Thai's JFK service debate is getting to be as convoluted and ridiculous as South African's 342/343/346 stop vs. non-stop debate.

Today (1st May 2007), ACM Chalit Pukbhasuk, Chairman, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited, presided over a religious ceremony on the occasion of THAI’s 47th Anniversary at its Head Office.
    ...
On this auspicious occasion, THAI announced that it would increase operating flights to destinations in the United States of America; Los Angeles and New York from five flights a week to daily flights. The long-haul routes will maintain utilizing the Airbus A340-500 aircraft. THAI expects to gain a great benefit in the future from maintaining the base of passengers in the two routes, given that they are the premium customers bringing about the long-run benefits for THAI.
    (Emphasis added)

So I guess the A340-500s aren't leaving the fleet and aren't going to SAA.

I'm confused. Between that and this, wasn't it believed the route would be cut or switched to 772ER via PVG or ICN? Or have I just completely messed all of this up?

I think according to A net LAX and JFK were doing poorly so they were going to end the non stop and go with a one stop thru somewhere else in Asia. Guess they're wrong.
