Some of the things they're doing there are absolutely amazing, but isn't it a little bit of overkill?

Dubai is quickly becoming one of the greatest cities in the world and it is easy to tell why. I really want to go there some day.

Dubai is a great center for world trade. I sell bulk sugar by the shipload and currently Dubai represents around 85% of my end business. I've been forced to partner with key traders in Dubai just to have a footprint there.

I deal with European traders who have been forced to open offices in Dubai just to stay competitive in Europe!

So, its not just oil money. The Arabs are investing oil money in key global trade of raw materials that sell for cash. They are in this way positioning themselves for when the day comes that the oil runs out.

    Clever.

It looks beautiful and I'd love to visit.

However, the fact that Al Qaeda is allowing this spectacular city to flourish unimpeded tells me there must be some financial incentive from their government. :?

    Hello everybody!

I'm new around here.. so HI YA!!

I'm from Southern Europe and have been living & working in Dubai for over 4 years.

Dubai is a truly impressive city. Having said that, traffic these days is becoming so unbearable, inflation has long been out of hand, and yes, property here is great and relatively cheap, but yes, it is an overkill and I would not want to be in the situation where I have a property that I'd like to sell as the market is absolutely flooded. Winter in Dubai is probably the best winter you could ever wish for, but summer is as hot as hell.. :D Then again, I have never been to the US (I've been postponing my first ever trip to the States for far too long now.. but I bet I would love it). :D

    Regards to all,
