You know what we'd call a year with 10,000 murders in the United States?

An unprecedented reduction in violent crime.

According to the FBI, there were 16,692 "murders and nonnegligent manslaughters" in 2005 (most recent available), which is a number that's held relatively steady since 1998. Canada had 658 in 2005, a rate just over a third that of the United States.

    Is that right?

Is it true we really have more people in New York State than all of Canada?

    :D

I'm sure Canada is more peaceful though..

Not true, but combine the NYPD, the New York State National Guard and the State Police and you'd literally have a force about the same size as Canada's entire active military.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.

Canada has had its share of school shootings unfortunately: Ecole Polytechnique, Dawson College, Taber Alberta. But the overall rate is low because people don't walk around armed.

Regarding the military, yes, the numbers are low, but there's no other armed force as active in the last number of years (and that includes the US).

And when they aren't peacekeaping or fighting a war on terror, they busy fighting on the ice

    Because we can't afford it!

    :D
We'd need to do something radical like abolish the public education system - and mandate vouchers for about half the cost per student per year at public schools.

The quality of education would go up, we fund a million man army to sit on places like Iraq (you don't need high tech for that, you need manpower), and we might even be able to give every 18 year old a car and a house (of sorts) for passing go.

We might even consider an amnesty program for non violent inmates clogging our prisons on ludicrous drug charges for which they're serving way toooo many years. More folks for the military - and remember the US military can *already* fight just fine - it needs more people - for all the nation building the de-facto bi-partisan powers that be like to envision. And, we'd stop wasting money on incarcerating non violent people in our much needed prisons for more genuinely undesirable types..(who need to spend a little more time actually)

Its fun to dream isn't it?

    Tom
    1. Send illegal aliens in Iraq.
    2. Abolish the public education system.
    3. Consider amnesty program for non violent inmates.
Wow! Is this the Al-Qaida aviation forum or what? How about public execution for not paying your parking ticket?
