My photo stolen from a.net without my permission! HELP!!!!!!

    Goodmorning everyone,

Today I recieved an email from somebody pointing out that this website has stolen my image from airliners.net and used it on their homepage...WITHOUT my permission:

    here's the stolen version: http://www.teamwoa.net/Login/tabid/451/ ... fault.aspx

and here is the photo on anet: http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?id=1141098

I am really annoyed by this and I don't know how to proceed. I feel like I should be paid or something at the very least.

Can you all please give me any advice as to what you think I should say in an email I will write to the owners of the website? I feel that this is a serious matter, and if you could please help me I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks for your assistance.

According to World's regular website, their webmaster's email address is listed. I would reach him.

    http://www.worldair.com/contact.html

Depending on what you want, you can ask to have it removed.

I realize the pride that people have with their photos, but, I would not exactly use the word "stolen", the photo is being used on the World Airways Pilot website.

Yes, they should have asked for your permission to use the photos, but, the pilots probably figured why, which they were wrong.

Send the Webmaster an email & tell him what you want, I would ask for credit for the photo, may they can list your name under the photo?

Trust me on this, you have no idea as to how many Airlines are using the photos from airliners.net without permission, consider yourself lucky that you found out about it......

Just becuase alot of companies get away with it, that doesn't mean it should be acceptable, or that the photog should be excited and grateful just to have found it.

In this case, I don't think asking for a monetary sum would work, considering it's the employee site (not a pilot site, but a general employee site), that photo credit or removal of the photo would be reasonable requests.

I hear you, I said they were wrong for using the photo without permission.

Now, the airliners.net needs to have some security features in place, on some websites, if you right click on a photo, it will not allow you to copy the photo.

Just because it is an employee site doesn't give them free reign to just rip people's pics off with not so much as an email asking for the use of it. I don't know what Josh's feeling is but I feel it's up to US whether we allow the use of our work and what our compensation is. It is in all fairness our pictures, our cameras, our lenses and our time. I would ask them to take that pic down immediately or come to some sort of an agreement on compensation. People seem to think they can break copyrights like it's nothing and it just gets worse by people taking a laid back approach to it.

Its a breach of copywrite and Josh would be well within his rights to request monetary compensation. Josh make sure you take screen shots of the website incase they give you crap.

Airliners.net does in fact of security features. One of them being the watermark. The watermark is an option that PHOTOGRAPHER'S must choose. I, for example, don't want watermark becuase should someone want to use one of my photos for a desktop wallpaper, they don't have an Anet naem across it making it ugly.

The same thing does for the "save right click" features, which Anet does NOT have. Not only are there ways around it, ut it prevents the "law abiding" members to use the photos for wallpapers and such.

On sites that disable right clicks you can still hit Print Screen and paste the photo into Photoshop. If you're really concerned about shots being stolen the best protection is to watermark them.

Josh, if you don't mind them using it as long as you're credited and/or paid, you should demand that they remove the disgusting edit they're using now and use the original. Otherwise demand that they remove it.

I agree--just because a lot of sites do it does not make it any less wrong.

I have seen sites where when you right-click on a photo a box pops up explaining the photo is copyrighted, etc. and then proceeds to the regular right-click menu. Getting people to think a little bit more may be the trick.

I'm always puzzled about how the people in charge of websites and using these copyrighted photos should be the very people who know the deal about using photos--especially in the case of Josh's picture, where someone knew enough about Photoshop to take out the background.

    Depends what your looking for:

If you want credit, ask for that

If you just want it removed, you can do that

If you are mad and want them to either pay you or remove it, your in your rights to do that too!

Either way, it is unacceptable for this to happen!

It looks like it isn't there anymore, so I guess the issue was resolved.

To fill everyone in further, yes, it has been removed temporarily and will be put up again shortly; as the company has purchased rights for the photo from me. :D
