JetBlue to Fly JFK-Nantucket (ACK) This Summer

According to a press release today, jetBlue will be staging a telephone press conference Wednesday to "announce details of airline marketing partnership" and "announce New England expansion."

Not sure what the marketing partnership is about, but according to an article from The Inquirer and Mirror, jetBlue has filed a letter of intent with the Nantucket Airport Commission for summer service, and Cape Air will be providing the ground handling. More details will follow after tomorrow's conference, scheduled for noon.

    any idea what type? i can't imagine they'd serve ACK with a 320... gotta be a -190...
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

Very interesting... This could be a huge boom for tourism for the island. I've always wanted to visit Nantucket but getting there is a bitch. This could make it very easy for a day trip or a quick overnight.

Well, turns out that newspaper report was incorrect.

JetBlue will NOT be flying to Nantucket, but rather offering a code share with Cape Air for service to Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Provincetown and Hyannis.

Correction, jetBlue IS FLYING TO NANTUCKET FROM JFK. They issued two press releases within the past few minutes rather than putting them into a single release. So in addition to the code share, there will be a daily JFK-ACK round trip, with two on Fridays and Saturdays, all on E190s.

They are expensive, though I don't think they're any worse than the other carriers that fly there.

Intro will be $49 each way, regular fare will be $79-$279 each way.

I just searched Expedia for mid-July and found CO and US nonstops for $430-$491 roundtrip, so it's comparable.

Flying in a 421 during the summer is a fun ride. I would take that over our beech 1900 service plus you can "jumpseat"

ACK seems like an airport with limited facilities...Will jetBlue be accomodated well with just Cape Air's accomodations?

I'm sure Lowell, Roy, Antonio and Helen will do an adequate job serving jetBlue's passengers. :)

What really gets me is that jetBlue sees this demand out of nowhere for JFK/ACK service and won't even touch DAB! I'm sure DAB has more to offer than ACK especially facility wise. JFK/DAB service would do wonders for both markets. Statistics show that New York is THE top destination for DAB passengers and all we get is Saturday service on Delta to LGA for two weeks. Thanks a lot Delta!
However, I am very optimistic that with AirTran in the picture, jetBlue will be next to start service in Daytona Beach, FL.

WOW forget an Airbus in the winter, try 10 hours in a 421 waiting for Tstorms to pass during the summer on for size. (ducks)

Actually, jetBlue would probably be better off with twice daily DAB/JFK service on the E190.
Thunderstorms pass within hours, snowstorms pass in days sometimes, like this one. You can get things up and running in much less time then 10 hours after a tstorm. DAB is also small, so there isn't a lot holding it back, and your not going to ATL like with AirTran and Delta, so you have a better bet of an ontime flight.
