Delete Nick V?

The two board admins (GothamSpotter and myself) spend a fair amount of our activity ont he boards deleting some of the fake bot members that manage to get past a barrier or two that we have to prevent them.

It can sometimes be tough to figure out if a new member is real though, and after reading a post, I realized that if Nick Vollaro has joined the site today, we'd probably have assumed that he was a fake member for two reasons:

1. All caps and "69" in his username - This is common in the porn bot members we get, and is usually an obvious giveaway.

and

2. He has an ICQ number - Who has actually used this in the past 4 years? Usually, if a new member has an ICQ number, not that it's wrong, but it's almost always a fake member. In fact, I looked a bit and couldn't find one other real member that had an ICQ listed in their account.

I just thought it was funny how if Nick didn't joinwhen he did, we'd probably have been on the wrong side of judgement and be lacking our good buddy. :)

I don't know- he shoots with a Nikon, he loves Sam Chui, has a thing for Mario's butt, maybe you should delete him :D :D :D

I will have you know Phil that I still use my ICQ frequently. It's better to talk to people outside the US than AIM is IMO. Good post Phil I laughed my ass off.

Was that a recent join? We do get fake members on occasion, but the staff is on top of deleting them as soon as humanly possible, in order to avoid spamming, etc.

That's cause phpBB is pure crap. Tons of bots start sneaking in, and nothing can be done about it on phpBB unless you completely restrict registrations and make it so you manually add new accounts. You will not have a problem if you went to SMF.

Going off-topic here a bit, we get a few fake ones each day, so when we see an "R-Taylor", we know it's fake and take action.

As for phpbb, we know the problems that it has and we are actually going to be reconstructing the boards over the coming months (won't affect you folks much, don't worry!).
