Flying low cost to Liverpool from New York? New JFK route

Earlier this month FlyGlobespan decided to shift airports and instead of their original plans to fly to EWR from LPL they're now going to fly to JFK. It's a 757-200 service that comes into JFK daily starting May 25. They, however, will not be using their own 757's, leasing 2 from Excel Airways, so a mixing of schemes can be expected. If all goes well and the route will be successful B4 might be able to send their 763's here.

I did a little bit of a price research and came up with some real good deals:

Leaving Jun. 28th coming back Sep. 7th:

    Total Cost: $478.00

This is in the "Economy No-frills" class

    Economy - No Frills
    • 20kg luggage allowance
    • Purchase onboard a wide range of meals snacks and refreshments
    • In-flight entertainment available
    - headsets can be purchased
    on board.

You can upgrade to the following:

    Economy - Premium service upgrade
    • 30kg luggage allowance
    • Complimentary seat selection
    • Priority check-in
    • Priority boarding
    • Full meal service
    • Complimentary drinks
    • In-flight entertainment
    • Pre-select your meals

    Total Cost: $655.00

Or you can just go wild and go Business Class!

    Business Class
    • 40kg luggage allowance
    • Complimentary seat selection
    • Priority check-in
    • Priority boarding
    • Use of airport executive lounge prior to departure
    • Gourmet meals served with fine wines
    • Complimentary drinks
    • Individual in-flight entertainment
    • Soft pillow and blanket
    Total Cost: $980.00

This is how their jets look like:

I'll be using that next December hopefully, unless BA or DL price match.

So are these planes a 1-class configuration? Like if you purchase a business class ticket, do you get a bigger seat/more legroom? Based on the above it doesn't sound it.

If this is the case I think I'd rather pay maybe a little more to fly on a "legacy" carrier and fly business class on them...

I was just going to ask the same thing. Sounds like the same seat (which is probably crap), just different service.

I heard a (very corny) commercial for this service on the radio this morning. I had forgotten about it.

I'm guessing this is an alternative to Manchester being its not all that far or is it just another gateway destination? Well it will be cool to see something else at JFK.

On the commercial they pitched it as a "Low-cost gateway to the UK." Fares start at $99 each way for steerage.

Liverpool is as close to London as New York is to Boston, so if you're actually going to LPL or continuing elsewhere in the region, LPL would likely be better.

I have just been over to UK and back with Maxjet and for the money (about $1,000 total cost return) it was great and if my company is paying (normally its only Econ returns) thats the way I would fly.

I would NOT recommend anyone getting the JFK - Liverpool flight and then take the trip down to London, its a long way by car, train or coach (cheapest way).
