    Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid

I got myself a new toy for Election Day:

If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for it and where did you pick it up? I'm looking to get one myself.

I got it for $1,359 from Dell Small Business. It was a nightmare. I'm never buying anything from Dell again. Ever. I should have gone to B&H.

I had researched prices on this lens a couple months ago, but when I finally got the urge to actually buy it over the past month or so, I never did any follow up research. When I saw Dell selling it for $1,359 in addition to some attractive finance terms, I thought I was getting a good deal, as when I last checked just about everyone, including B&H, was selling it for $1,599. I've been so busy recently I just never looked up any more prices. I see now that B&H has it for the same price after Canon's new $40 rebate.

I knew dealing with Dell to get a computer built is a disaster, but I figured just putting a lens in a box and shipping it to me would be so simple that even they couldn't screw it up. I was sadly mistaken. Just a couple of notable events from the transaction, which stretched over two weeks:

--Somehow, when I ordered ONE lens, they decided I really wanted EIGHT. I was quite confused when their credit people called the next day to tell me I needed to fax them more information to process my order (but they didn't tell me why). I only realized the problem when I read my confirmation more closely to see that they were attempting to charge me $13,000.
--Getting them to fix the order, which was 100% their fault, required talking to seven different people on three continents. At the end, it wasn't fixed, they had to start over.

I'm pissed at them but I'm glad it's over and I'm very happy now that I have it though. Can't wait to use it.

If you don't take care of your lens, it won't bode you well!

Caress your lens and it will produce multiple beautiful images.

Gotham, when you get out into the wild, be sure to catch a photo of MOOSE!

Very rare, especially at JFK and LGA
