TRUMP TO VISIT £1BN GOLF SITE
12:00 - 08 October 2007
Tycoon Donald Trump has flown in to inspect the site of his proposed golf resort at Menie Estate.
A meeting and press conference were planned for today.
Mr Trump arrived at Aberdeen Airport on his private jet.
Today he planned to walk the site of the planned £1 billion resort with his architect.
Menie Estate is on the coast about 13 miles north of Aberdeen.
The resort would have two 18-hole golf courses, a 450-bedroom hotel, 950 holiday homes, 36 luxury golf villas and 50 private residences.
One opponent of the development said there were no plans to hijack today's meeting.
Local resident Mikey Foote, of pressure group Sustainable Aberdeenshire, said: "We don't want people to see us as a rabble."
It was Mr Trump's first visit to the estate near Balmedie since council planners backed his proposals.
At Aberdeen Airport yesterday, Mr Trump said: "I'm looking forward to this visit very much.
"It feels great to be back."
Mr Trump is expected to go over all aspects of the development during his trip.
He was accompanied by right-hand man George Sorial, who had warned a public meeting last month that the plans could be ditched if the go-ahead was not given for the 500 homes.
Mr Trump is also to visit his mother's former home in Lewis.
It is not known when he plans to see the croft where she grew up in the village of Tong, outside Stornoway.
