    NYC at Night

Fred and I headed over to the Brooklyn waterfront, hoping to do some night-time photography of NYC with the 9/11 "Towers of Light". There is a nice park under the Manhattan Bridge where we (and a number of other photographers) set up camp.

Despite some clouds, it was a beautiful view. Here are a few before sunset:

That's the Brooklyn Bridge in the foreground:

    Sailboat on the East River:

Our view of the Manhattan Bridge:

    After the sun went down:

The lights of a passing boat are seen below the bridge:

The Williamsburg Bridge is off in the distance, with the footing of the Manhattan Bridge in the foreground:

Another photographer set up on the rocks near the river:

We never did get to see the twin lights - turns out they will only be illuminated on September 11. After a couple of hours of shooting, Fred heading into Manhattan, and I headed home, since I need to be to work in the morning (so what am I doing up late, processing and uploading photos?)

If you ever get a chance to go shooting with Fred, do not miss it (especially at night!) Not only does he take great photos, he is all to happy to explain how he gets those shots - I learned a lot in a few hours.

    Thanks Fred :!:

Great shots Moose! I love how the water looks in the night shots.

We were actually down at the Seaport last night...was such a beautiful night. Don't know what made us NOT bring the camera and a tripod!

That seems strange; the lights were on Friday night, and I could see them from Hoboken. I know in years past they would have the lights on for a couple of nights before (and after?).

Yep, the past couple years they've said they were only going to be on the night of the 11th, but I've always seen them on for a couple of nights before. I was at South Street Seaport Friday night and I was pleasantly to surprised to see them. Maybe they weren't on all night as they will be tonight, from 7:12pm to 6:33am. I know it's not cheap, but I'd love to see them year round.

And moose, beautiful shots, especially the last one.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.

it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

I took the camera out tonight along the Hudson waterfront from Hoboken and snapped off a few:

Looking toward the site over a residence hall on the Stevens campus (for the three weeks between my arrival there and 9/11, I used to walk back to my dorm this way, watching the towers "set" behind the hall):
