    Spirit's MD-80s have been retired

Saw this over on a.net, and was quite surprised as I had heard nothing about this. Looks like Spirit phased out the last of its Mad Dogs and is now an all-Airbus airline, with (according to the thread) 20 A319s and 6 A321s. All of them are in the silver/black scheme except for the one white/blue A321 (N586NK).

Kinda disappointing to see the Mad Dogs phased out, as it means there will be that much less variety for LGA.

This is really sad to me. It felt like yesterday that the 10th Anniversary scheme was zooming around.

Anyone know where they are being stored or sold to?

It wouldn't surprise me to see Alliegent pick up some. They've been adding second hand MDs for the past few months. Their belief is its cheaper to own an older aircraft even with higher fuel costs then make payments on a new aircraft, seems to be working for them.

SO are we talking about only AA Mad Dogs at LGA now? How cruel!
And I, I took the path less traveled by
and that has made all the difference......yet...
I have a feeling a handle of people are going to be very interested in what I post in the near future.

No Delta has a ton there still. The shuttle routes are all Mad Dogs, plus mainline.

Yes Midwest does AA does and so does DL and DL shuttle. Farewell to the Spirit 80's back when Spirit ran from ISP I used to go once in a blue moon on the maddog to RSW in the good old days. The product on the frog jet is not too bad though. I took the 321 from San Juan to MCO last summer one way and cannot complain.

No all of Midwest's regular service is now 717 Signature Service. The MDs are all Saver service and run out of MKE and MCI to most of the tourist spots. Any MDs Midex sends would be an EQ sub.

I know I've seen it (Midwest MD-80) at LGA at some point over the past few months, probably an equipment sub I assume. (?)

Funny how I love the DC-9, but am not a big fan of the MD-80, with the exception of Spirit's.

Midwest still does? I thought all their service to Milwaukee and KC from LGA was on their 717 "signature service" and their MD-80s were their "Saver service" based out of Milwaukee.

the majority of NK's flights to LGA are 319 operated. i rarely ever see a 321, but the white on has been in a few times over the past few weeks. haven't seen a mad dog in months.
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

Yes Midwest brings an occasional MD80 in on equipment subs as mentioned above but also sometimes on Sports Charters as YX has their fair share of Sports Team Customers.

As far as Spirit all LGA flights are 319's with the exception of the early morning originator to FLL which arrives late night from FLL. Worked a double Thursday and their one 321 was the white one and it still looks pretty!

    Cheers
