La Guardia Kids Day!! September 30

What I feel is the best yearly aviation event in the area, Saturday, September 30th, is the day where we all get to enjoy LGA up close.

Though times are not definite, it is usually from 12-4pm.

The event is organized by Kiwanis Club for children to get to enjoy the various attractiosn up close ont he tarmac at the Marine Air Terminal.

Open to the public, airliners usually from American, US Airways and Delta Shuttle are on hand to board, meet employees and maybe take in a soda, courtesy of the crew.

Fighter jets usually make an appearance, this year so far are promising a pair of A-10s to come!

There are usually dispplays by the New York Skytypers, the Port Authority rescue trucks, and the Department of Corrections. Appearances by NYPD and PAPD helicopters and more are also common.

You enter through a gate that's a few hundred feet south from the MAT. Food and refreshments are free of charge as well.

Last year we had close to thirty members appear, and I hope many of you come and bring whoever you'd like as well.

Photography is allowed and URGED!! :)

Is this the sort of thing that I'd feel out of place going to if I weren't bringing a kid with me, or are there a fair number of other people doing that too?

The crowds are large and it's certainly not just for kids.

Each airline usually brings out one aircraft, plus the 4 or 5 Skytyper TExans, the fighter jets and helicopters.

Last year, US Airways borught out an A319 in Star Alliance colors, Delta brought out a 733, and American brought out an MD-80.

The three most common expressions in aviation are, "Why is it doing that?", "Where are we?" and "Oh Crap".

it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.
