    Water Cannon Salute for Maxjet?

    Yesterday at work I noticed two PANYNJ fire trucks facing eachother along taxiway November to Terminal 1. Wondering what was going on I decided to wait and see what the commotion was about. As it turns out, it was a water cannon salute for N250MY. Does anyone have an idea of why this was done? I remember them doing it for the Air France Concorde the last time it arrived at the terminal and they did it for the BA Concorde on the way to her final takeoff. I've heard they do it for retiring captains sometimes, but why would a captain go to Maxjet just to retire nine months later? I'm just curious if anyone has an idea.

    Retiring captain most likely. IIRC there is a mandatory retirement age for commercial pilots.

    If the Captain did retire, the Captain may have simply retired as a Line Pilot & will then move over to a non-flying position, which could be Vice President of Flight Operation, Director of Training, or simply a training Captain ...

    Not a captain, F/O Dave Singer to be exact. I just dropped off two prints for him and a captain that is retiring soon as well. One of their captains contacted me to set it up, they leave the matted prints in the crew room and let the other crews and employees sign it then give it to him. I wish Dave well in his retirement.

    We do the matted print for the Boeing pilots as well. Something that I add to the gifts is an old man cane, comes equipped with a rabbits foot, rearview mirror, reflector tape, & a horn.....

    Correction

    F/O Dave Singer retires on July 4th, the water cannon salute yesterday was for Captain Bob Michaelovich, I heard he got a wheelchair ride with baloons through customs as well. If anyone wants to get pics of Daves water cannon salute on Tuesday get out and shoot it!

    Hopefully seeing this will remind Maxjet's well-heeled passengers that pilots are hardworking professionals that deserve some recognition for their career achievements, not unskilled service workers as increasingly airline management, investors and the general public view them.
