    Varig 777 at JFK

Does anybody know the story behind the Varig 777 at JFK? It has been sitting over at American's hangar for almost two weeks now and hasn't moved. I didn't think American did major work on the aircraft at JFK, but why else would they leave it there for so long? I hope someone has some info.

Its been at JFK for months now. It went into UAL for engine repair and VARIG didn't have the money for the repair and stopped paying the lease. Recently it was towed over to the AA hangar and is about to be repoed by the bank. Check the news page out, Mel did a story on it. Mario and I payed her a visit about a month ago. Sad to see her sitting there. She's got one engine missing and she's leaking a bit of fuel from the exposed fuel line

Thanks a lot for the quick response. I should have checked the news page, but I usually skip the home page and go right to the forums. I guess I'll have to reset my bookmark. Thanks again.

its a damn shame to see a 777 like that. I mean, you might expect it with older birds, but a 777?

I hadn't realized that I had seen PP-VRE before at MAD last year.

Here she is in happier days taxiing in from GRU.

The first time I'd seen her, she landed in JFK with some special markings besides the Ruben Berta/ Like a 50th anniversary logo. I got some OK shots back then, but at the time I was shooting film and was still very lowly amateur. It was also my first time shooting on the ramp... with Phil....in the rain,.... of course

Yes, I found the photo, this is what she used to look like.

A crap shot, no pun intented, taken from the tower. A very lucky day, got to meet Mr. Kohn as well

But that is so wrong, and I hope the future is bring. Anyone doing this to such a new beautiful aircraft ought be beaten with a Ryobi by Joe Pesci

She was moved into the AA hangar today. I'm assuming for repairs and to put that engine back on. I'll let you know if I find out anything else.

It was parked on the side of the hangar for a two weeks or so. Then today they actually brought inside the hangar I assume to repair it. Sorry for the confusion.
