The hollywood crowd is really nuts. total contempt for their audience in most cases.
Apart from that though, it is a shame some military is not closer or located within NYC. I wonder if the one or two ships the Navy had at the homeport a few years earlier might not have had anti-aircraft guns. Of course the orders would have to be given, and a shoot down over or near NYC would've been a disaster anyway...)
Closet Coast Guard choppers are now in Cape Cod and Atlantic City. They can get here pretty fast, but still...
Can't say "no one" would have anticipated airliners as WMD. Some (a few) in the intelligence agencies were quite worried about this..but the urgency did not travel up the chain of command very well.
AS to the "official story", it does seem odd Mohammad Atta's passport flies out of the cockpit onto the sidewalk, gets immediately picked up by a pedestrian and handed to the guy next to him who happens to be FBI or whatever...but I suppose stranger things have happened.
