    Visiting JFK this Saturday 12/03/05

    Hey Guys,

I'm planning on visiting JFK this coming Saturday. I'll be traveling with two (or one) regulars from DC area. Weather looks good so far, and if it stays that way we'll be there for sure.
So far Senga has promissed me to meet us there. Hopefully I'll see some of you there.

    Hey Guys,

I can confirm trip to JFK. We will leave from DC around 3am to be there between 7 and 8.
Where should we go in the morning? Winds are predicted from the West, becoming WNW later in the day. Which runway will be in use?

We'll be in Toyota Camry with MD plates (yellow plates).

    Probably 31L/R.

Weather report for tomorrow is that it's supposed to be sunny but windy and cold. Bring warm weather (as if I really have to tell someone from D.C. that).

    Hey Josh,

I can bring 37 degrees with me :) Thats what we have right now in DC.
I forgot to ask earlier. Is Austrian using 767-300 all the time? Do they have preffered runway? Can I catch it on 31R at Costco?

    Thanks,
    Rafal

Rafal, 37 degrees is about what you should expect here tomorrow. Except at Costco or any other location right on the water you should expect it to feel a little cooler.

I have seen Austrian use both 31L and 31R for arrival, so my advice to you is to monitor NY Approach and listen for what runway Austrian is being vectored to. If you're at Costco, you should be able to move to a different spot rather quickly to catch it arrive on 31L. You'll likely have around 10-15 minutes after it first checks in with NY Approach. Perhaps Senga or someone else can tell you a good spot for 31L arrivals, as I don't like leaving Costco even if something good is coming in on 31L. The NY Approach frequency is in the Tools-->Airport Data-->JFK section of this website. Just go to the main page and use the navigation bar to get there.

I'm pretty sure the Austrian 763 is daily for the winter season.

I might be able to get out for a short while tomorrow afternoon. If I do, I'll be sure to find you.

    Josh

Rafal, call ATIS on the way up and you'll know what runway is in use. 718-995-8188.

That's correct Josh. Sked arrive time is 3:15pm daily.

I'll try to get out for some shooting tomorrow, hopefully for a few hours.

Weather.com shows winds out of the west at 25 knots all day, so I'm guessing we'll see 31L/R as the active all day. But like Mike said, give ATIS a call (I have them programmed in my cell phone, how much of a geek am I?)

    Hope to see you there.

    Hi Guys,

I would like to say big Thanks to Senga for taking me to 31L spot for Austrian Airlines. It was nice meeting moose135, and seeing Mark and Eric briefly. I am very happy with the stuff that I've got yesterday. For most of you its daily bread, for me little bit of heaven :)
Here are some pictures from yesterday.

Nice shots, Rafal, I'm glad to see that you got what you came for. Josh and I headed out to LGA for two hours around 2PM and Eric caught up with us then, as well. Sorry we didn't get to meet up...next time!

Nice shots Rafal, especially the Air Tahiti Nui in the fading light! Good to see you and Blendi again and also finally meet Senga!
