Went to Fort Lauderdale the other day for some photos. I have an Olympus C-765 which isn't one of those $1000 cameras with fancy lenses, but it seems to have worked well. :P Enjoy :) By the way, some of the photos seem a little blurry and that's because I still need to practice focussing on a fast-moving object. :P





Apparently I resized this one a little too small, haha. :p























These photos, other than the resizing, are directly from the camera..therefore they're a little crooked and stuff.

You will find that there's more to good photography then an expensive camera. The best camera in the world won't help if you don't know how to use it correctly, or how to get the most out of it. You'll also learn that pushing the shutter is only the beginning - post-processing can make a huge difference, but it all starts with getting a feel for your subject and what works. That comes with practice, so don't be afraid to go out and shoot and try new things - different angles and compositions. And don't limit yourself to aviation. That may sound like blasphemy on an aviation web-site, but shooting a variety of subjects will help you learn and keep things interesting.

And finally, shoot for yourself. Yes, it's nice to get your shots accepted on a.net or JetPhotos, but if you go out trying for those kind of shots, you will soon get frustrated. Shoot what you enjoy, and you'll get those shots to upload, but you'll also get a bunch that make you happy too!

Thanks. I never take pictures of planes to submit to jetphotos.net or airliners.net. I take photos of airplanes because I love flying, I love aviation, I love planes. :) But I don't take photos of other things because as I just said, I take them of aviation. Although I did get http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=559925 and http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=559930 accepted, with every other photo rejected due to being soft.

But by expensive cameras I mean.. look at them: http://nycaviation.com/pichost/LA_Group_1_100805.jpg they all have big expensive cameras with large lenses etc. I don't. What I have is still a point and shoot camera, however, it does produce very good results in the end most of the time.

My photos are not going to be the quality of those cameras which is why I made that statement in my first post. :P

Yes, I took them from level 7 of the Hibiscus Parking Garage.

Anyway, Moose speaks the truth. I used to shoot with an Olympus C-740, and your shots are pretty damn good. Nice work. :)

It is refreshing to see people taking photographs of planes because they just like planes. So many people get caught up in getting acceptances and in arguing over rejections from said sites that they lose track of why we all do this. I love uploading my photos, but I never forget that I love doing what I do even if my photos are not accepted into databases.

Thanks :) FLL only has 9L/27R as a main/active runway, so there is always a lot of traffic to go around :) Plus it's a spotter-friendly airport (unless you act like an idiot and put a ladder up to the fence or close to the fence).

Futterman, Moose does speak the truth. However, whenever you see a picture of a spotter, they always have $600+ cameras with large lenses and whatnot. I don't, so I was just saying that I didn't. :P

To me, if a photo gets accepted to jetphotos.net, then that just gives me a reason to pat myself on the back.

Aviation is one of the things I love most in my life, and that's why I take pictures of it.

Airliners.net rejects photos if the plane isn't completely centered, if there's a dust spot that can only be seen when you invert the colors in Photoshop, if there's some grain on a dark part of an aircraft, if there's too much sky, etc.

I don't like a.net because of that -- I want to look at photos of airplanes! If they say everything has to be a certain way and they reject some awesome aviation photos..I just don't like that! They expect you to be a professional photographer with a professional camera. That's where my $1000 camera statement came from.

I love my Olympus and I'm not going to get a new camera for a long time, especially when this produces some very nice results, but when I read that many other people have these big expensive cameras and whatnot, it just makes me feel smaller or something similar to that. :P

FLL is awesome. First time I shot there was 10+ years ago and many times since. Ever session there has always produced excellent shot. Now that the prime shooting season has started, I'll have to burn some passes on Blue to get down there for a quick weekend!

Well I have over 450 images on Jetphotos with a $300 Olympus point and
shoot! It is the C4000 and had full manual controls so it is about as
powerful as most DSLR's. I did get a new $1000 dollar camera with a
long lens and I do love much more than my point and shoot, but I learned
99% of my photography skills from that little OLY! It is the best camera
you will ever own and is better than DSLR's in a few ways.

1. You never get busted by a cop as hard (DSLR to them is a Rocket
Launcher, you can go Oww sorry and they will let you fly because to
them your camera is a toy....TO THEM, not me!)

2. You never worry about somebody knowing if you took a sneak shot,
turn the sound off and NOBODY can tell if you take an image. ***Quick
fingers can erase the last image without looking at the camera in 1.5
seconds flat.

3. Nobody looks at you and starts to whisper to those around you when
you pull out your camera.

4. You get yelled at less by F/A's on takeoff roll and they Politely ask you
to put the camera away. If I pull my mother out on final, I would worry
about 60 screaming sirens and lights following the aircraft, Free room and
board for 2 days while they poke me with everything in site and raid my
house wondering how I got an A-6 manual and why I wanted an old Paa
707 manual. I bet it would hurt when I pee after that! ;)

The police won't bother me. If I'm doing nothing wrong in the official spotting areas, then there's nothing wrong. Plus kids are always better with things..as in a flight attendant or pilot would let a kid into the flight deck before or after a flight more often than some unknown grown man..The police see a child taking pictures of airplanes with their dad, or they say an unknown grown man taking pictures of airplanes...

See the difference? :P Plus I've been there many times and they don't bother me. The security on the parking garage drives by all the time and doesn't care. They just take a look at me and my dad (and once my mom, haha, I took my mom spotting for the first time the other day and she loved it, yet she HATES flying :P), and then just kept on driving by.

If you live in the FLL area, you may want to go out and catch a soon-to-be gone aircraft on Saturday.

N102DA is a Delta 767-200 and is known as the Spirit of Delta. It will be retired in the next month or so. It has a unique 75th anniversary paint job that is really attractive.

It is scheduled for Delta's flight 308 from Atlanta to FLL on Saturday. It is supposed to arrive at FLL around 4:30 pm.

I am thinking of driving from the Orlando area to FLL just to catch this plane.

By the way, what was your vantage point for taking those FLL photos? I'm guessing that runway 27 was active?

Yes, 27R was active. I was on level 7 of the Hibiscus Parking Garage, which is the new one, and also the tallest.

Do you mean Saturday as in TODAY, October 15?

I can't go today. :( Hopefully you can and then snatch some photos of it :)
