    Delta 762's Retired by Dec 1st 2005

I read this morning DL has just announced the 762 will be retired by Dec 1st. 2005, get your shots now, at least we have a couple a day right now. I know they plan on keeping N102DA the "Spirit of Delta" for their museum but not sure of it will be kept in flying condition for airshows or just parked at the museum ? Most of the 762 will be converted to freighters for ABX Cargo.

Sad News but I am not surprised.

damn... time to go shooting. i see these thigns every day and still have yet to get my own pix of them. :-\
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

I always thought that American's would be the second to go. Oh well.

I have never seen much of Delta's B767-200s since I do most of my spotting at JFK but on my way to JFK I will make a stop to spot the B767-200s into LGA.

Will the routes they fly be replaced by B757-200s or B767-400s?

    Ron,

    I read in an article:

"The agreement calls for delivery of six aircraft in 2006, two in 2007 and three in 2008."

Will Delta retire them by December and just deliver them later? I'm confused.

And Delta only has 11 of these left? JetPhotos' database says they have 13 active at this time.

N102DA was supposed to be doing airshows, but according to an e-mail that I received from someone on the Airshow Team, they weren't doing airshows this year because it sends a bad image to the company and its employees that every airshow costs like a couple million dollars (which it doesn't). It's a shame.

This was my source re all 762's gone by Dec 1st, a yahoo news release from DL

Beginning this month, Delta will accelerate the removal from service of its Boeing 767-200 aircraft type -- the least efficient wide-body aircraft in its fleet. These aircraft are scheduled to be removed from service by Dec. 1, 2005, with the majority to be sold to ABX Air, Inc., through a transaction announced separately today.

    How old are these aircraft?

Well it is already starting, first N104DA was retired and now I saw that N108DL was ferried to VCV a few days ago, along with a couple more 732's. I remember seeing DL ship 108 make a rare runway 9 landing in TPA when she was only a few weeks old, and that was a long, long time ago. Here is my only shot of her (plug, plug) in happier days at LGA, sorry about the quality !

A bit off topic, but has UA retired their 762's? If so when, and what is their current status?

    Thanks

I think the last flight was on March 26. Most of the flights operated by the B767-200 have been replaced by the B757-200. Most of the B767-200s are now in Victorville.

About a year ago they were being sold for only a few million (seriously cheap for a widebody w/"Century 21 Avionics") and were posted at United Services.

P.S. none available right now, but send an email to [email protected] and maybe they can cut a nice deal for ya!
If it 'aint Boeing, I 'aint goin'.
