Lynden Air Cargo C-130s operating intoSWF for Katrina relief

SWF , Stewart Airport is having lots of good stuff flying into SWF as a response Hurricane Katrina. 4 C-130s have been flying in and out of SWF as of yesterday and flying to Louisiana, Also the Murray Aviation DC-8s are also flying into there. l'm sure more great stuff will be showing up over the next few days/weeks. Miht even see some AN-124 coming through there as well.
Heres a shot of what hte LYC C-130s looks like.
Great chance to get some rare planes.
Shot a few years ago at EWR

I guess I will be heading down to Newburgh soon!

The other day I saw a white B757-200 on approach.

Did you see anything else at SWF on your trip there?
Were any of the LYC C-130s there when you got to SWF?

Yea there were a few Linden Herc's that flew into Elmendorf while I was at ANC... Kinda weird, but I guess they get special priviledges or something???

I just saw a KC-10 doing on approach into SWF but I doubt it has anything to do with relief. I have seen the KC-10 a couple of times flying over Poughkeepsie into Stewart, I even saw it refueling a F-16 over the Hudson River during the sunset, needless to say it was a beautiful sight!

not sure about this, but when i was up in Anchorage in may alot of the heavies bound for Elmendorf were using ANC due to runway works etc at the airbase, all the AWACS, C5, C17, C130's all used ANC, was great watching the F15's zip down the valley doing circuits during the day! Perhaps Elmendorf is re-opening to heavier traffic?!

All the AWACS flights out of Elmendorf are out of ANC due to runway resurfacing (I think it's RWY 6/24).

All the other aircraft use Elmendorf. When I was there in August, we had KC-10's and C17's stopping over and using the short runway. Perhaps when you were there, both runways were closed, or part of one runway and the cross-runway were closed, forcing the aircraft you saw to use ANC, but that wasn't a normal occurence...

The 517th AS is out of Elmendorf, and they've been flying their C130's out of Elmendorf all summer.

It's just a lot harder, and more time consuming to launch the F15 and C130 sorties off of one runway, especially when the taxi procedures at the end of one runway is to make a 180 and taxi down the runway for a bit....
