Your Help Is Needed: Hurricane Katrina

Sorry if I sound like a Sally Struthers commercial, but...

Most of us have seen the video and photos of the devastation that occurred in Louisiana and Mississippi. "Widespread" doesn't even explain it. Imagine your entire town, and all the towns around you, covered in water up to your roof, or an peninsula of land like La Guardia Airport, no longer in existence.

There are millions of people going through the toughest time of their lives right now, and there are many dead that have not been accounted for.

I think back to 9/11, when the country and much of the world got together and helped us out and put forth a little something to help us get by in our time of need. I think this is a great way to give back to some of our fellow Americans that so desperately need our help.

I urge you folks to make donations to the American Red Cross' 2005 Hurricane Relief Fund. From I've read, this is the most effective way of helping people with your dollar.

In addition to a donation already made, NYCAviation.com will put forth 50% of whatever you folks donate yourselves, up to another $500. If you're a member of this site and you donate through the American Red Cross, mail us a copy of your receipt (email me for the address), and we will match 50% of your donation. Be sure to tell them that you want it to go into the "2005 Hurricane Relief Fund". Your donations will be kept private.

Every dollar helps. Even if it's just $5.

    Please consider this, guys.

    Thanks,

    -Phil Derner Jr.

Phil thank you for posting this. Really even if you only have a few dollars or something to give please do. These are our fellow countrymen who as Phil pointed out when I was speaking to him helped us during 9/11.

I truly can't comprehend that an entire American is almost totally wiped out. The one thing they do have which is evident by the rescue workers risking their lives is the American Spirit. I truly hope New Orleans will rise like a Phoenix from the ashes and comeback to us.

It's more than New Orleans, too. Destruction as far as 70 miles inland.

The destruction is seriously the equivilant of several atomic bombs. These peopel got sent back to the stone age in the matter of one day.

Phil, just want to say great idea on the matching.

And yep, every buck is ampliflied.

Just a few weeks ago, in MIA, we were talking with family about how bad hurricane Andrew was in MIA. Now, Andrew is nothing compared to Katrina
And I, I took the path less traveled by
and that has made all the difference......yet...
I have a feeling a handle of people are going to be very interested in what I post in the near future.

My family just donated $100 to the Red Cross. I'll be honored to give you a copy of the receipt.

I'd like to thank everyone that contributed money towards this cause.

We did reach and pass our $1,000 goal (for the donation matching)!

Just because we reached our goal, that doesn't mean we should stop giving. Please continue to offer your support.

    Thanks again everyone!
