The panynj.com EWR flight status page has the recovery flight from JFK to EWR, but doesn't mention the diversion. It's safe to assume it had to fly around some thunderstorms which have been parked over much of NJ, northwest Queens and Manhattan for the past couple hours.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

there was a lot of stuff flying around those thunderstorms today. thank god for those storms though, the temp dropped maybe 10 degrees afterwards from the high of 101 at LGA today...
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

it was really hot here today... close to 100 but i dont see why it would fly extremely low over this neck of the woods unless there was some thunderstorms in that area... what a sight it was though!
