I'm thinking about putting money on it that it was just two spotters with scanners.

I wonder what went out on the radio when Mario and I got detained over there.

I'm guessing it's 2 guys with a laptop and wireless internet access using AirNav.

If it actually was two bad guys trying to "tap in" to the radar, we're in good shape, because they're obviously not too bright.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

Yea the whole tapping into radar seems rather bizarre.

If they were at ISP, chances are the radar they were trying to tap into was the control tower's radar. Given such limited technology that still exists today how exactly does one go about "tapping" into radar? Aren't radar fixes transmitted downward, meaning they are picked up by a rotating beacon (or similar device) at the top of a control tower, and then relayed down to the control tower? Are radar sweeps, especially just ones at airports, transmitted anywhere else?

Nothing on the news about it, at least at at 6PM, so it was probably not that big of a deal.
