    LTU Began Today

    Quoted from the news page:

"LTU International Airways begins flights info JFK Airport with Airbus A330s from Dusseldorf (DUS), arriving at 4:00PM as flight 1550 and departing at 7:00AM as flight 1551."

I think everyone was so excited about yesterday that they forgot about this new visitor.

    Anyone catch it?

True, but there was only a 2 in 7 chance that a new visitor would inaugurate service on a weekend, so Thai naturally got a good amount of attention. I imagine most people are tied up on Mondays, so LTU* was left in the dust...well, maybe not Senga... :P

*EDIT: Just as I was typing "LTU", Senga IMs me with this:

I think Phil's original question should have been "Did anyone other than Senga catch it?" We all know Senga has cloned himself many times over so that he can have a permanent presence at various airports.

There is no one as reliable as Senga for catching the special planes.

Futt...LTU is not Lithuanian...it's a German airline. I know LTU is an acronym for something in German, so without looking at their website (http://www.ltu.com) my guess would be only slightly better than "Lithuanian Transport Union".

I looked at LTU's website again, and LTU indeed is an acronym for words in German. At least according to most of the pages I was looking at, the "U" is not "Union"...it's a German word. However, there's one page that refers to the "U" word as "Union", so it may be that the word beginning with "U" translates into "Union" in English.

The "L" and the "T" appear to be part of the same word, again in German.

I'm trying not to give anything away for those who are still guessing what LTU stands for.

I know what it is now...

My understanding is that the "U" word in German translates into "Enterprise" in English.

    Uflangenheistermeyer, maybe.

The "LT" is prettymuch a reinterpretation of that crane-bearing airline with a European twist on its function. It's actually one word (well, it looks like it is).

Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

All right then, before someone blows a headgasket....

L is for "Luft", that is in english "air"

    Air Transport Union.

    You guys were close.

Now "that kraut crane airline" is really hard.

For Lufthansa, there is no one direct English translation.

Its best read as " Air Merchants" There is a long story somewhere about the "Hansa's" Its about moving merchants, originally from the ocean cargo days.

I'll post the next quiz as a new thread!

    Mike :)
