That's great and all, but why does someone like me, who is healthy, have to pay more for having non-diet soda even though it's not unhealthy for me?

The information in the video is informative enough, but it looks like it was shot on the budget of a sophomore-year health project.
There was no budget, the guy did it on his own......Originally Posted by flyboy 28

My bad. I thought maybe the state put it out or something.
They are treating it like smoking a cigarette, which is bad for you & will impact you eventually....Originally Posted by Phil D.

Now, this does not assume that I am for this tax, but, if the tax is directed towards the health department, well, I would have to give it some serious thought....

Does anyone really think NYS is going to set aside "fat tax" or any other health tax for future use in its field? we're talking about NYS who since Peter Stuyvensant was governor/caretaker tax money has been squandered on money losing projects or was pocketed. I think I'm beginning to see the GOP's complaint of "tax and spend" quite clearly.

If soda is so bad, then BAN it, instead of making me pay more out of pocket, punishing me for being in good health NOW.
At 27, I shouldn't be charged more money because of something that might come to me in 30 or 40 years from now. Unlike smoking, wwhich WILL cause problems for people over time, soda is not a cause for a majority of people with anything. Odds are, it will NOT affect me, even decades down the road. At 27, I should be able to have a can of ****ing soda.

I think Diet Soda is more harmful then regular. With the "chemical" sweeteners they are using half have no known long term effects.
I was a Mountain Dew freak but had to cut it out due to the caffeine. I normally have Gatorade or vitamin water at work.
All they are going to hurt is the Soda companies who then will ask for a bail out like everyone else.
