    Meanwhile, back at CLT...

I hadn't really planned on spending time at CLT today, but FlightAware was listing a FedEx 777 making a hop from ATL, which got the CLT spotter group excited. Turned out to be a false alarm, but while I was there, I caught these three TH-57C Sea Rangers (based on the Bell 206 Jet Ranger) out of TAW-5 in Florida.

At the overview, Southwest's Maryland One arrived. I think this may be the first WN special that I have caught - it's certainly the first time I've gotten one in CLT.

Insel Air continues to mock me...arrived behind me on 36L the departed 36R. Fortunately I had the long lens on, but it's still a reach.

New A321 for US, delivered three weeks ago.

How does an A340 climb? Get into ground effect then wait for the curvature of the Earth...

Here you go...departed on 36R, so it took every bit of the 400mm to get him.

It was a warm, sunny afternoon, and I slipped out of the office a little early - LH brought the A346, and CLT was departing Rwy 36!

Yes, I know the guy in the Ops truck. No, he didn't stop by the overview to pick me up...

84 degrees, a heavy airplane, and the stunning climb performance of the A346 - put it all together, and you use most of the runway, and offer some good photo ops for those of us at the overview.

I was shocked this afternoon - for the first time since I've been down here spotting, the LH Lady wasn't out at the overview for the departure. I don't know if she was somewhere else, or if she was there for the arrival, but it sure seemed strange not having her accompanying the LH departure this afternoon.

Great recent shots John. The Insel Air is a great capture. Get well soon, Lufthansa Lady! (I presume she reads this thread)

An-124 arrived this afternoon, carrying a new tail assembly for a US Airways A321. They landed Rwy 36C, and there isn't a "usual" spot for those arrivals, so there was much discussion as to where we would try to shoot from...

Thanks for sharing that nice dash8 & Clt tower photo! I've shot 36R departures from the overlook too and I know what a stretch it can be with the lenses. But you came away with a nice photo!

Any news on 23 OPs? im still hoping to make a visit while 23 is shut down. Drink in all the 18C action from the overlook with 23 closed :)

Rwy 23 can only be used late nights, and there aren't any plans to change that from what I've heard - the issue the FAA has is with the potential conflict if someone goes missed on 23 when there is a departure on 18C. That's not going to change. I don't know that we will ever see 23 operations during normal daytime hours.

Got home from a few days in Charleston this week - and no, I didn't do any spotting there - and spent a little time at the overview this afternoon.

Citation owned by the Coca Cola Bottling Company in Charlotte.

Finally got some decent shots of the FedEx A300F.

I really like the reflections in the fuselage.

Reports are LH switches to the A330 for the winter starting on Sunday.

Then I decided to try a new spot a fellow spotter found...

    SWA arriving 36L

    Followed by Star Alliance

This is one of my favorite liveries on any plane, wow

    Some West metal arriving

Not too many of these left
