    It's nothing new. They routinely close runways for a short period of time for maintenance. Maybe they are replacing runway lights, signs, etc. Ya can't do that if there is an aircraft landing or taking off every 60 seconds.

    Considering jfk's taxiway, runway safety rating, it should be closed
    Everyday for maintenance.
