    ATL - January 22, 2009

Stopped by the usual spot this morning after work...

Mark will appreciate these shots of N610DL! ;-)

Three Pinnacle CR9s in the penalty box:

I also managed to snap a few in Forest Park (good for 27L arrival shots). My original intent was to get a shot of Eva Air Cargo from PANC but ATC sent him over to 28 instead (still need to find a good spot to get 28 arrivals)...

A first for me, the US Airways EMB-190 (arriving from CLT):

Ship 648 fitted with winglets (one of six 757-232s receiving winglets):

    All the best,
    Chris

Why are only 6 757-232's getting winglets?

    I believe 2 757-232s are done with winglets now. N648DL and N650DL

The lighting at ATL always seems to be quite nice.

Only six 757-232s are receiving winglets because that's all the airline needs at the moment. The aircraft are used on high-performance routes like Eagle, CO. I believe the original number was quite higher but the financials for the project were re-evaluated last year (due to the economic situation). As the economy stabilizes I'm sure we'll see more than six 232s fitted. DL currently has three 767-300ER mod lines opened up: ATL, GSO, and HKG. Eventually 30 767-300ERs will be fitted with winglets. Of course, the 17 ex-AA aircraft (-2Q8/231) are all fitted with winglets however they are a completely different subtype relegated to a completely different mission (i.e. international configuration).

Sergio: three 232s are fitted so far (648, 649, and 650). Haven't caught N649DL yet...

Just as an FYI, I saw N1608 parked out at the E concourse last Friday as we were taxiing past, she wasn't fitted with winglets. Word from Justin at http://www.koolaiders.com is that the wing on the DL 767's is different from the AA 767's and required a re-writing of the mod procedure, which is currently being finalized by Tech Ops. 1608 has had some structural work done in preparation for the winglets, but won't get fitted for them until March. Until then, she is back in revenue service. Can't wait to see it!

Great shots, I do like the wavy gravy 75's with winglets - a nice change from the ex-Tdub's.

Interesting, that seems to have sneaked past me. Didn't AA do the same with the 767 they had fitted with winglets? IIRC that airplane is back in service with AA also without winglets...

    Re: ATL - January 22, 2009

You are correct Chris, AA's bird that was retrofitted also had them removed since the FAA is still in the process of certifying the mod. I think that one also was returned to revenue service. I don't think the FAA has approved the mod as of yet, which also probably is playing a role in delaying 1608 and the rest of the 763ER fleet. I'm just repeating what I heard from koolaiders since those guys are pretty good with the DL fleet info and I happen to have seen that bird with my own eyes.

I'm familiar with Koolaiders. I know Justin (the operator of the site) very well and provide him with information as it comes available to me...
