Greetings,
On a recent foray to the parking lot off Cross Bay Boulevard (JFK Spotting Site A) I caught the usual mid-afternoon departures from 31L.
Later on I noticed an increasing number of departures on 22R … it was one of those &%$# transition times from 31L to 22R. When I realized most of the “heavies” were using 22 I got down to Rockaway Beach by foot and bus just before sunset. The following images were shot with my since-retired EF 100-300mm in fast fading light from about Beach 94th Street to catch the 22 departures … then at some altitude and climbing. [A shooting site perhaps further west would reduce the number of “bellies.”] And … oh … had I got down there an hour sooner …
Anyway … here’s what I got in a strong wind from the SW. Most of these shots were cropped and exposure-enhanced out of necessity.
BTW … the surf was up and the twilight surfers were out in force.
