Pan Am could have ponied up for a Concorde

Geez, Tommy, PanAm could have at least ponied up the cash for an SST. That Makeshift SST is a joke! :D

Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.

I have a feeling our good friend Mario has been drinking a bit to much wine today.... First he called PanAM, TWA. then he thought I was PanAM fan and now the TWA terminal is pictured. Put the wine glass down Mario and step away from the cork.

If you use NYCA hosting and upload a file with the smae name as something already in it, it will overwirte the old one. So perhaps Mario (or someone) uploaded a photo with the same name and it overwrote the previous one.

Can anyone share with us what the previous image was of? This is one of hte most confusing threads I've seen here. haha

The complete fleet of Boeing 747s used for trials. At the end of August, the 5 airplanes (lit: machines), had amassed a total of some 500 flight hours. The aluminum probe of 9.7m length [32 ft.] is equipped with a set to learn the aerodynamic forces due to the gusts.

This may not be true for this particular probe, but most of these "needle noses" on experimental aircraft are - among other things - just extended pitot tubes.

It makes sense that we'd see this feature on completely new aircraft models and designs, too, since it helps to determine and assign an accurate airspeed to a certain V-speed (say, stall speed). Placing the pitot that far away from the fuselage eliminates "position error" caused by phenomenon like the boundary layer, and it also allows the instrument to be properly calibrated and used.

Now it's time to put the Urcle glasses away and hit the sack. :)
