LGA's old runways, finally a chance to share!!

I don't know if anyone recalls, but many moons ago, I'd seen a photo of LGA way back in the day with up to 5 runways.

And I wanted to show you all what I saw. So this weekend I found a book and found these photos. Check it out!!! I love these photos! Check them out!

The first photo is the one I had searched for but could never find and I just fell upon it today. Check out the runways and the marine terminals!

Next one is a different overview. again, shows the runways and Marine area, but looks like College Point was a field back then.

And couuld you imagine this kind of regular access at LGA?!

    And finally, the marine terminal
And I, I took the path less traveled by
and that has made all the difference......yet...
I have a feeling a handle of people are going to be very interested in what I post in the near future.

Mario, thanks for sharing those amazing photos. I have seen larger version of those and more in one of the Port Authority office buildings located near the M.A.T. I want to share the a.net photo of LGA with the earliest date, early 1940's. featuring what appeared to be an AMAZING place to dine at that time.

Anyone notice the estuary snaking behind the terminals/hangars?

it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

Excellent, great to see how it all used to look. In fact, when I think of it, it's amazing how much of the old LGA is still there (MAT, the old hangars, etc.). These pics are obviously before the changes made for the '64 World's Fair, I know they built the CTB and extended the runways for jet service, but does anyone know what else was done at that time?

i showed off these pix at work, everybody enjoyed them. most found it hard to believe that our check-in counters were once very wet.

Thanks. I'm just glad I fell upon these photos. Glad you enjoyed as much as I did.

I'd started another thread last week, looking for good coffee table type books, so I ordered "Airports: A Century of Architecture" and "Jetliner Cabins" As I persued the architecture book, I found those photos.

And I'd been searching for a photo looking at LGA's 5 runways, so that was a huge bonus. What was also nice weas seeing Praha(Prague) featured in the 60's and comparing to what I remember it as in 2006.

Not sure if I will keep the books, going to have a look through them again.
