Thanks guys, I have to admit that other spotters helped me out. I ended up using the Canon 100-400mm. Some of the spotters there let me try out their gear also.
I was browsing through more of my photos and found this one; a British Airways Boeing 747.

Well I finally went out on my first plane spotting journey. I got a lot more but this one was the best. What do youguys think?

Yeah it helped me out a lot, thank you very much.
Oh ok, thanks. I've been wanting to do that for a while now.
Who do you go through to register the photo? Are there companies that do it?
So if you decide to register the photo thats when the paperwork would come out?
Would the Canon 300mm f/4L IS USM with a tc on it be a good choice? What would that turn out to be, a 600mm?
How do you do that? Is there a process that involves paperwork etc? Or is it as easy as putting your name on them?
Yeah your right, my bad. Sorry 'bout that.
I know those are both zooms. Out of those two choices, which one would be better for plane spotting?
Ooopppsss, looks like your the silly one!!!!
I'm looking at buying some lenses for my Canon EOS-1D Mark III. Here are my choices:
Zooms:
-Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM AF
-Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM AF

WOW. Nevermind, I guess I've only seen them not extended all the way.
It just seems like the Canon 100-400L is a bit small, but i dont know.
Is this the ideal setup for taking photos of aviation? If anybody has anything I should change or anything I should add please let me know.
FF:
-17-40mm f/4L
-24-105mm f/4L IS
-70-200mm f/4L IS...
Wow guys thanks for the help.
and you get good shots with these?
I'm new to plane spotting and have a question:
What kind of lenses do I need? (I shoot Canon)
