Gosh...lovely night stuff John!!!
Ho Hum...another An-124... ;-)
This guy came in earlier this week, and is supposed to be here through the 18th, just someplace to park between jobs.

It still has the remnants of the "20 Years" anniversary sticker on the tail.

Nice sets John and nice work on the night shots! Keep'em coming. I'll be passing through CLT on 4/17 on my way to San Antonio, hope to get a little terminal spotting in between my flight.
Had an A-10 from the Maryland ANG spend the weekend, and I caught him departing Sunday afternoon.

The new Piedmont retro Dash-8 was in and out of CLT a few times today. Of course, as they taxied it, a big cloud came over, and departing 18L I ended up with heat haze, but at least I've caught it. It was painted to honor their retiring president Steve Farrow, and may not be around long.

There was some nasty weather in the area, and I was hoping we were going to get some interesting diversions into CLT, instead, we got some ugly thunderstorms that closed the ramp for close to an hour, creating a huge back up. At one point, tower said there were over 40 inbound aircraft sitting on various taxiways trying to get to the ramp, while nothing at the terminal could leave since the rampers were all inside avoiding the lightning.
Before the weather got bad:

LIAT - Leeward Islands Air Transport Services Dash-8 I've seen this come in on FlightAware a few times, but was able to catch it tonight - they just beat the thunderstorms in.

Wow ... What a fantastic set and great catch with the lightning.
Thanks, Mark!
We had the AA Reno Air retro come into CLT this evening. Just dumb luck that I caught it - I had been at the overlook, and when things got quiet (real quiet!) I took a ride up to the hourly deck. I saw this coming in on Rwy 23, and I couldn't figure out what it was as it approached. I thought I heard an American call sign check in, but it sure didn't look right. As it got closer and I saw the AA titles, I realized what I had caught!

We also had an Air Canada Express (Sky Regional Airlines) E-175 come in. They were picking up passengers off a CRJ that broke.

Nice night shots John,
I must say your second to the last night shot (Above the lightning strike) is probably the best aviation related night shot I ahve ever seen. To me it is just amazing.
Senga
Thank you, Senga! I really appreciate that. I find myself stopping and looking at it every time I come across it.
World Atlantic Airlines is a charter operator out of MIA - I had to look that up, I had not heard of them before seeing their MD-82 at CLT on Friday. They were flying a charter to Guatamala.

https://photos.smugmug.com/Airplanes...3WA_002-XL.jpg
Swift Air has been flying weekly charter flights recently.

AeroMexico is also flying a weekly charter this summer.

A few interesting things from CLT today:
Charlotte Mecklenburg Police (CMPD) has their aviation unit at the airport, but I've never caught them. Today, one of their helicopters launched, crossed the runways at the south end of the field, then headed north overflying the Overlook - it's backlit, but I finally got one.
https://photos.smugmug.com/Airplanes...7PD_001-XL.jpg
Elite Airways, a charter operator. I've caught this frame at RDU as well.
https://photos.smugmug.com/Airplanes...1EA_001-XL.jpg
Grumman Gulfstream II, serial number 1 - the first G-II built by Grumman in 1966. It served as a test and demonstration aircraft for Grumman until 1970, when it was sold to Robert Galvin, CEO of Motorola (and son of the company's founder). Galvin and his family used it until 2012, when it was retired and flown to the Carolinas Aviation Museum at CLT for display.
https://photos.smugmug.com/Airplanes...5RG_001-XL.jpg
Sikorsky S-58JT owned by Midwest Helicopters, who provide heavy lift services with it - it was built in 1958, and is still in use.
https://photos.smugmug.com/Airplanes...9NH_001-XL.jpg
I saw that S-58 at FWA in 2015.
We've gotten some neat visitors into CLT - today we have an Antonov An-12 owned by CAVOK Airlines, a Ukrainian charter cargo operator, paying a visit to CLT!
https://photos.smugmug.com/PhotoADay..._UR-CNN-XL.jpg
Great shots Moose! That Cavok Air is quite the catch for sure!
Rich B
Thanks, Rich! And if you think one is good, how about two? We had another CAVOK An-12 arrive early this morning, UR-CKL this time. Both are on the ramp together, but I wasn't in a spot to get them in the same shot.
https://photos.smugmug.com/PhotoADay...CKL_004-XL.jpg
Wow two at the same time? How lucky can you get? I ave never even seen one
Rich B
Summer nights, and you have to keep an eye on CLT - thunderstorms in Atlanta caused this KLM 777 to divert until they cleared.

Thanks, Mark!
Yeah, loved that one too
Thanks, guys, I really appreciate that!

The CMPD helicopter made several passes over the runway prior to AF1's arrival.
https://photos.smugmug.com/Airplanes...7PD_001-XL.jpg
And thanks to some strong storms in Atlanta again, we had a Virgin Atlantic A346 drop in. In a strange set of events, just before they were ready to leave, we had a big thunderstorm roll through, and our daily Lufthansa A330 ended up diverting to Greenville, SC.

Great shots as always, John. Looks like the parking deck is working out well.
I need to get back to CLT--haven't spotted in 1+ year there.
Funny that Obama is leaving Charlotte and coming to where I am now (Sevilla, ES). Small world.
Thanks, Adam! You really do need to get out with us one of these days! We had about a dozen folks from the CLT spotting group meet at the overlook this afternoon.
They started out on 36

Great shots, Moose!
Rich B
Nice set John and sweet catch on the BMW Gulf Stream. Hope all is well with you.
Thanks, guys!
We had a C-5A Galaxy stop in to CLT this afternoon. It's out of the 433th Airlift Wing, AF Reserves, from San Antonio.

That's neat how they stylized the Texas flag on the tail! Must've been neat seeing a Galaxy there at Charlotte, I take it you don't get those very often
Yeah, this is the first I remember hearing about since I've been down here.
And with the old Pratts no less!
I was fortunate enough to see one doing touch and goes myself while I was waiting for the PAAF F-16s to arrive into CEF (with the P&W engines) I love the scream of those engines. I see more of the reengined (C-5Ms) these days.

https://photos.smugmug.com/Airplanes...5NN_002-XL.jpg
Nice stuff - I'm hoping she (or Trump for that matter) show up in Seattle sometime soon!
I missed both Kaine and Pence earlier this week, but we had Hair Force One in CLT today. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a clean shot of it over at the FBO ramp, with bizjets and ramp equipment getting in the way. I've gotten shots of it before, so I wasn't too upset.
https://photos.smugmug.com/Airplanes...7AF_001-XL.jpg
Along with the 757, this Miami Air 734 was in with it. I think this may be a press plane, as Pence is in Florida, and uses the Eastern charter.
https://photos.smugmug.com/Airplanes...2MA_001-XL.jpg
Some really nice recent stuff Moose...favorite is the trio of AA CRJ9's, very nice night shots
