Re: Today at Farmingdale 2008/2009
A couple of years ago, they removed the P-51 replica, and I got some shots:

Here's the "landing gear well":

Here's a look inside - you can see the metal framework, and the unfinished side of the fiberglass:

I'm sure after sitting out in the elements, with little or no care, they get beat up. It's not like they have a metal skin or much structure underneath.

Most of us who have spent any amount of time at FRG have seen this bad boy around the air patch (this is a shot from last summer). It's a 2008 Embraer EMB-135BJ. The N-number is - or at least was - N18BM. I recently found out what the BM stood for - Bernie Madoff. I found it now registered as N924AK, to the same Syosset-based charter company.

Thats hysterical. Great detective work. Geez nothing gets by the guys (and girls) in this group. :)

I find that military helos usually dont stay long as opposed to their fixed wing brethren.

Yeah they are usually there for a couple of hours to a day....When the Red Arrows came one of them had to stay there for a little bit because of engine failure.

Re: Today at Farmingdale 2008/2009
Stopped by today and the SkyTypers roared out off of 3-2. They were heading down to North Carolina. Couldnt hear the whole conversation between pilot and Tower as there was interference from Airport 2 on the freq.

Re: Today at Farmingdale 2008/2009
The Seymour-Johnson AFB show is this weekend, they are on the schedule of performers there.
-
Re: Today at Farmingdale 2008/2009
I heard the skytypers fly over also....
Do you have info on the performers that are supposed to come? I will do some research and try to find out.

Are you talking about the SJ show, or Jones Beach? The SJ show info is at http://www.wingsoverwayneairshow.com/ and all the info you could ever want about the Jones Beach show is available in the show thread here on NYCA.

Re: Today at Farmingdale 2008/2009
I meant SJ....I guess I will be able to see the skytypers take off and maybe the warbirds flying around (if they are still flying at the show, does anyone know?)

I'm a little lost here...or maybe you are. The show the Skytypers left for is at Seymour-Johnson AFB in North Carolina. If you are here on Long Island, you aren't going to see them until they return.

Re: Today at Farmingdale 2008/2009
Didnt notice this yesterday but the fence by the parking lot adjacent to Hangar 5 is now all covered up with that
green grass-like substance making it impossible to sit and watch the aircraft. Of course that doesnt surprise me
as that is the Cablevision hangar and they are known for their.... "secrecy". :) :P

Re: Today at Farmingdale 2008/2009
Also nice to see some "older" JetRangers at FRG today that I've seen flying around these parts for a long time.
N206TD is 23 years old, N2068X is 28 years old and N206SH is the elder at 34 years old.

Either you don't visit that area of FRG often, or you aren't very observant. ;) j/k, bad Friday night humor.
They put that fence "grass" in 2 weeks ago. There are reasons why it was put it, but I am not allowed to say why.

More likely the second. :)

Well knowing the mind-set of Dolan and Cablevision it doesnt surprise me.

Re: Today at Farmingdale 2008/2009
Can anyone confirm a P-51 take off/landing? Because I thought I heard something and by the time I got outside I thought I saw one in the distance.
-
Re: Today at Farmingdale 2008/2009
Yes, a P-51 took off around 10am, returned around 11am. It was "Old Crow" - N451MG. I did manage to get a shot during his takeoff roll, but I was too far north on the runway, did not get the liftoff. Will post eventually, at work right now.

Oh yeah, Trump's S76 also paid FRG a visit today. Again...pics to follow at a later time.

Re: Today at Farmingdale 2008/2009
And Kalitta Charters II 727 came in on 1-4 and roared out on 1-4. Interesting that it seems like they keep their engines
in idle while they offload?

Sorry I was lost, I have bad tendencies to word this wrong. Thanks though

The two highlights of the day for me today:
First: the P-51 "Old Crow"

Second: Mr. Trump's Sikorsky paid a visit (backlit)

...and a bonus...Michael Mancuso's new paint scheme for this year promoting his new sponsor Finn McCool's

I was watching the landing and the loading, they do not leave it running, that was just the APU.

I like Michael Mancuso's new paint scheme...

Thanks. They work pretty quickly. 3 trailers loaded, in and out in about 90 minutes or so.

Came in again today. Passed by my house around 12:10 flying at 3600 feet from the NW. Dropped altitude as it came in
on the Microwave routing.

Re: Today at Farmingdale 2008/2009
I was there today and at aprrox 3:48 a T-6 Texan ID: JMC 3829 took off....
I do have to say the people at the Republic FD are nice because I was standing outside the car with my scanner and they came by and I thought oh snap I am gonna get kicked but they asked if anything was wrong and we breifly talked about the airshow.

Re: Today at Farmingdale 2008/2009

Re: Today at Farmingdale 2008/2009
Would anyone happen to know if the C130 Hurricane Hunter is still scheduled to come in on Tuesday May 5th?
-
Re: Today at Farmingdale 2008/2009
Yes, but it's supposed to be a P-3 Orion hurricane hunter...
